What is your denominational affiliation?  What type of church is Better Way?

Better Way is a non-denominational church.  We can best be described as a full-gospel, spirit-filled church.  We believe in the baptism of the Holy Spirit with evidence of praying in tongues.

What exactly is meant by a "spirit-filled" church?

According to Acts 2:4 "All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them" (NIV).

We believe that our lives should be directed by the person of the Holy Spirit in agreement with the Word of God.  Allowing God to direct our steps through the Word and through an inward witness are the primary ways in which we are directed by the Holy Spirit.

Why do you lay hands on people?

The "layng on of hands" is a biblical doctrine.  We see examples of this throughout the Old as well as the New Covenant.

New Covenant or New Testament examples include:

  • Dedication:  People brought the little children to Jesus (Mark 10:13-14 NIV)
  • Healing:  Jesus is asked to lay his hands on a sick girl (Mark 5:23); Jesus gives instructions to the disciples and to those who believe.  He tells them to lay their hands on sick people and they will be well (Mark 16:18); Paul lays his hand on a sick man and the man is healed (Acts 28:8 NIV).
  • Conferring office or duty:  They presented these men to the apostles who prayed and laid their hands on them (Acts 6:6 NIV)
  • Receiving Holy Ghost:  When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Ghost came on them and they spoke in tongues and prophesied (Acts 19:6 NIV).
  • Ordination:  Do not neglect your gift, which was given you through a prophetic message when the body of elders laid their hands on you (1 Tim 4:14 NIV).
