In the Beginning …

In the early days of ministry, through prayer and fasting, Pastor Martin received instruction to relocate to Tulsa, OK for further training and ministry.  While at Rhema Bible Training Center, he received further direction for pastoral ministry.

While the call of God was burning in Pastor Martin’s heart, he and his wife Stacey would have frequent times of prayer along with discussions about future ministry.  Many times they would say amongst themselves, “There’s got to be a better way of living”.  Hence, through prayer and leading of the Spirit, the name, Better Way Bible Church was birthed.  In April of 1990 at the Martin’s residence in West Philadelphia, the ministry of Better Way began with only immediate family in attendance.  Pastor Martin persevered Sunday after Sunday with a mid-week Prayer and Bible Study.  A few family members and friends began to come and all were enlightened by the Word of God.  Then one day, the Lord inspired Pastor Martin to broaden his scope, and Better Way Bible Church moved to Heavenly Hall located in West Philadelphia.  During the week it was a day care, and on Sunday it was transformed into “a place of worship”.  The Word of God went forth for three years there.  Again, the Lord inspired Pastor Martin to broaden his scope, and Better Way Bible Church moved to its first church building at 5104 Lancaster Avenue in West Philadelphia, where service was held until 2004.

In January 2004, Better Way Bible Church moved to its current location.  We now have two properties side-by-side – Thanks be to God who gives us victory.  We have expanded our Missions Outreach and have planted two churches in Liberia, West Africa and one church in Ghana, West Africa.  We are grateful for this opportunity.

Renovation of our building at 506-518 will take place to house our new sanctuary and classrooms.  We will continue to be a light in our Jerusalem, called Philadelphia, raising up ministers and ministries to do kingdom business in the Delaware Valley.  In addition to building up Better Way Bible Church Liberia and Ghana, we plan to establish other churches on the African Continent.  The future is brighter and brighter.  Jesus Christ has given us a Better Way!
